Edward Porter grew up in rural Maine where he was exposed to nature and the outdoors. As a child, he was always drawing and painting – mostly outdoor subjects -where, as a photographer, his main interest still lies. His aim is always to capture the mood and atmosphere of his subject in each moment.
Porter photographs in Maine, Rhode Island and Portugal. He is attracted by the wildness of nature in Maine, the ocean and fishing industry in Rhode Island, and the play of light upon the beautiful cliffs, and stucco surfaces of Portugal.
Edward also studied painting and photography at the former Philadelphia College of Art and earned his MFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design. Artists who influenced Porter include Winslow Homer and Richard Capra, among others.
