Laurie MacKenzie, an award-winning watercolorist and oil painter, has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Predominantly self-taught, she additionally studied under other artists and participated in training programs throughout the U.S.   Ms. MacKenzie has also taught art for over 40 years and, for 16 of those years, ran her own retail and art instruction business in Westerly. Her teaching travels as a convention artist have taken her up and down the east coast from New Hampshire to Florida, and as far west as Seattle. She continues to teach at the Westerly Senior Center. Laurie's talents have taken her work all the way to the Smithsonian where two of her painted ornaments are featured in the Festival of Trees collection. See her ACGOW Artist Page here.

Oil painter Richard Inserra is largely self-taught. His work primarily centers of impressionistic interpretations of landscapes and seascapes. As the artist reflects on his work, "I strive to create works that have atmosphere, motion and luminosity, drawing the viewer into the painting to see additional detail and creative touches". Inspired by nature and his travels, Mr. Inserra also endeavors to emulate painters like J.M.W. Turner and Frederic Edwin Church for their use of light which sometimes takes him into the realm of abstraction. In keeping with the May show, the artist will be exhibiting two "After the Masters" paintings, one based on a painting by Frederic Edwin Church and a second by French painter Edgar Degas.

In addition to his membership in the Artists' Cooperative Gallery of Westerly, Mr. Inserra is a member of the Lyme Art Association and the South County Art Association. See his ACGOW Artist Page here.
