KRISTIE FOSS works with polymer, a medium that appeals to her love of color and all things floral. She creates items that reflect both what she sees and can imagine, and creates jewelry by adding inks, powders and color agents to clay to create layers of hues. This month she has tried two new surface applications on the clay. One technique, “Faded Applications,” uses mica powders and acrylics, the other uses liquid watercolors. Her work beautifully reflects this month’s theme of new life and vibrancy that comes with Spring.
SERENA BATES is a sculptor who works in clay, bronze and stone. Her sculptures bring stories to life, incorporating a mixture of ideas and visions from people and the environment around her. Ms. Bates’ passion is sculpting portraits—busts and full figures, both serious and whimsical, and she sculpts all sorts of creatures and animals, domestic and marine. Ms. Bates trusts her observations, intuition and connection to the stories of the people and animals that she portrays. She exhibits in many national galleries and has won numerous awards. She is also the founder of an annual student scholarship award, which you can learn about further HERE.
