About Me
Diane Brown is an award winning mixed media artist, specializing in Oil and Cold Wax. She has works in the New England area, Georgia, Florida, Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New York City, and Greece. She is an Elected Artist at the Mystic Museum of Art, an Artist Member of The Artist Cooperative Gallery of Westerly, the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, The Newport Museum of Art and the Art League of New Britain, South County Art Association, an Associate Member of the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Center, an Elected Artist at Essex Art Association, The Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association. Diane teaches the Oil & Cold Wax medium from her studio in Pawcatuck, CT. She also teaches at Wickford Art Association, Spectrum Art Gallery, Arts Escape and Artsplace. She has commissioned paintings at The Rose Project in Bethesda, Maryland and at Eastern Connecticut State University. Diane has also been commissioned for individual residences in both Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
My work is inspired by the natural and organic formations, surface patterns and textures found all around us. The process of painting is my focus, not trying to make a specific statement, so I often begin in one place and end up in another with no idea of how I got there or how to "do it again". Therefore, all of my work is "one-of-a-kind". My work is small, medium and large, contemporary, oil and cold wax abstract paintings on both paper and cradled wooden panels, framed and unframed. My love of bold color is evident in all of my work. My results are abstract compositions of various marks, lines, shapes and forms. Outcomes can be surprising, but never dull. This is what I love about the oil and cold wax experience.
