Jane S. Hogan Oil Painting

Nature, the beauty in living things, and sentimental, everyday scenes have been sources of inspiration in my works.  But also, city spaces and quiet indoor settings stimulate me.  The colors, shapes, and rhythms around me give a creative power to my art.  Concept and composition initiate as important elements in my initial design.  But ultimately, my goal is to express a feeling or mood.  Colors and textures evoke emotions and help me portray moods. I try to create each piece to have a special ambience, story/memory or feeling.

I have worked in many mediums, including oils, acrylics, printmaking, graphite/pen, pastels, watercolor, clay, and mixed media.  My favorite mediums are oils, acrylics, and watercolors, often working plein air, as they continue to keep me energized to create new works. An art history lover, I also derive much insight from studying artists from different ages and cultures.

I am an exhibiting artist and instructor who divides my time between Texas and Rhode Island.  I currently teach painting and drawing classes to adults in Georgetown, TX.  As a retired high school art teacher, K-12 Art Director, and Director of the Franklin Arts Academy in the Massachusetts public school system, I have worked with artists and students of all ages.  I truly enjoy developing the creative and communicative skills of other artists.  I have shown, sold, and received awards for my works in oil, acrylic and watercolor.
